Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Beach renourishment is underway again with sand borrowed from the ocean floor.
Canít believe its been 10 years since we watched sand being pumped ashore and the beach get wider. Crews work around the clock and complete 500 to 1000 feet of beach a day.
The project is conducted by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers with federal, state and local funding in cooperation with Myrtle Beach area municipalities and the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co.
The last renourishment project was completed in 1998 when almost five million cubic yards of new sand was pumped onto the shores.
